Four Bearcats named to National Academic Squad
Congratulations to field hockey players Caroline Flowers, Tahlia Hodes, Liz Paschal, and Erin Stevens, who were named this week to the High School National Academic Squad. This program recognizes high school seniors who have achieved a cumulative, unweighted GPA of 3.5 out of 4.0 or the equivalent through the first quarter of the 2011‒12 school year.
Field hockey players receive honor
Congratulations to Bailey Gill, Rachel Hirsch, Christine Semple, Caroline Mackin, Kelsey Gill, and Lilly Brice for being selected by the International Field Hockey Club of Kentucky (IFHCK) to play in the National Field Hockey Festival held in Phoenix over Thanksgiving.
The three-day festival attracted over 4,000 athletes from across the United States and is the primary recruiting venue for our nation's colleges and universities. Way to go, Bearcats!

Varsity field hockey wins third straight District 1 championship
Congratulations to the KCD varsity field hockey team on their District Championship win on Thursday, October 20. The 2-1 win over Ballard gave the Bearcats their third straight district title. Congratulations, Bearcats!
Varsity field hockey heading into postseason play
The KCD field hockey team has done very well this year despite losing eleven seniors and only returning three senior starters. The Bearcats posted a 14-10 record this season, which earned them the District 1 regular season title. Tonight, they will make their sixth straight appearance in the championship game of the district tournament as they face off against Ballard. KCD has won back-to-back district titles in 2009 and 2010 and is looking to make it three in a row with a victory tonight.
According to Head Coach Amy Charasika, team captains Caroline Flowers and Liz Paschal have been impact players for the Bearcats all season. Their senior leadership as well as their skill, dedication and experience has driven the Bearcats to success. Flowers has 19 goals and 7 assists on the season while Paschal has 18 goals and 6 assists. The duo has been the driving force of the Bearcat attack this year, and the team will count on them going into postseason play.
The Bearcats play tonight against Ballard at 5:30 at CAL. Their next game, the state quarterfinal, will be on Saturday, October 22, at Bellarmine. The time and opponent depend on the outcome of the district tournament as well as other tournament games.

Field hockey tournament raises over $7,000 for cancer research
We are very excited to announce that the first annual Stick it to Cancer field hockey tournament has raised over $7,000 in support of cancer research. The tournament was held at the end of August, and eight Louisville teams participated. Proceeds from the annual event benefit the National Foundation for Cancer Research.
