Clermont-Ferrand
Students build friendships during France trip
As part of KCD's exchange with Saint Thecle school, sixteen upper school students and two teachers traveled to Clermont-Ferrand in central France in early April. They spent a week in a homestay with French families — in many cases, the families of students who had come to KCD last year. This exchange allows students to expand their French language skills and to deepen their understanding and appreciation of French culture and family life. The students spent time attending classes at Saint Thecle and visited some attractions in the area.
Following their homestay, students explored French history and culture through visits to Nimes and Avignon as well as four packed days in Paris, where students visited the Cathedral of Notre Dame, the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre and Rodin museums, and the Champs-Élysées, among others. According to US French teacher Margie Seely, our students became quite adept at using the Metro and also ate their fair share of crêpes, macaroons, and other French culinary delights!
Junior Emma Sims said that the trip was a great way to expand her French vocabulary and conversation skills, but that the opportunity to experience another culture was invaluable. “The trip helped me grow as a person because it forced me to live outside my comfort zone,” she said. “I learned a lot about the different customs and ways of life that the French have.”
