Twelfth Grade
Congratulations to the Class of 2010!
Commencement ceremonies for the Class of 2010 were held at St. Matthews Baptist Church on Thursday evening.
This year's speaker was Dr. Dan Jones ’79, who is currently leading 21st Century Parks as it undertakes the ambitious plan to build one of the largest urban park systems in the country.
During his remarks, Dr. Jones outlined the challenges facing our graduates in the future and encouraged them to face those challenges with optimism and determination.
During the ceremony, Alumni Association President Pai Charasika '94 also inducted Mr. Jones into the Alumni Association Hall of Fame.
We are very proud that each year 100% of our graduates go on to attend college. For a complete list of college acceptances for the Class of 2010 and a listing of graduation awards and other honors, please click here.

Twelve seniors inducted into Cum Laude Society
On Tuesday, June 1, twelve KCD seniors were inducted into the Cum Laude Society. The Society was founded in 1906 to encourage and recognize scholarship. Our charter was the first granted in the state, and KCD is one of only three Kentucky schools to have a chapter. Election to Cum Laude is the highest academic honor a KCD student can achieve.
This year's inductees were Lindsey Austin, Angelique Ciliberti, Matt Cook, Jessica Crawford, Alden Dowds, Geoffrey Jeyasingham, Chelsea Klein, Jacob Lazarus, Benji Niswonger, Adam Nussbaum, Elizabeth Pogue, and Michelle Worthington.
Congratulations to these seniors on this accomplishment!
Gold wins regional singles title
Congratulations to Maks Gold on his third regional singles title. He will head to the state tournament next week and looks to do quite well. The boys’ tennis team finished the tournament as regional runners-up, losing to Trinity by only one point. The regional team of Maks, Collier Bouchillon, Daniel Mark, Jacob Lazarus, Geoffrey Jeyasingham, and Daniel Greene represented KCD very well.
In addition to Maks, Daniel Mark and Jacob Lazarus will compete next week in the state doubles tournament. The tournament will be held at UK next Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Congratulations, and good luck at state!
Two girls’ lacrosse players named All-Americans

It’s a real mark of distinction to have two All-Americans on our lacrosse team. Congratulations to Ellen and Michelle on this recognition!

John Crockett ‘82 is 2010 O'Brien speaker
The speaker at this year's Matthew P. O'Brien Annual Senior Lecture was John Crockett ‘82,
parent of KCD students Sam Crockett ‘11, Henry Crockett ‘13, and Thomas Crockett ‘16. In his remarks, Mr. Crockett challenged seniors to work hard, appreciate what they have been given, and make the most of their lives as they embark on the new opportunities of college and living independently.
The O'Brien Lecture is held in honor of Matt O’Brien, a 1983 KCD graduate who passed away shortly after graduation. His family, friends, and classmates have established this lectureship in memory of his achievements, ideals of friendship, scholarship, and citizenship. Thanks to their efforts, the O’Brien Lecture continues to provide inspiration and insight to seniors as they embark on a life beyond KCD.
Ciliberti recognized by Mayor Abramson
On April 22, Angelique Ciliberti was recognized by Mayor Jerry Abramson as an outstanding high school senior in the Louisville community at a banquet at the Galt House. The award recognizes academics, athletics, civic involvement, or success in overcoming tremendous personal challenges, and Angelique is pretty much a winner in each category.
Angelique’s athletic achievements alone would be enough to make her an outstanding senior. She has been a district or state champion in lacrosse, track, field hockey, and cross country. Academically, Angelique is just as exceptional, with a GPA of 4.0 or better in each of her four years. She has accomplished all this while maintaining a part-time job and serving as a school ambassador and community service club vice president. Angelique will attend Wake Forest University in the fall. Congratulations!
Michelle Worthington earns National Merit Scholarship
Congratulations to senior and National Merit Finalist Michelle Worthington, who has been awarded the National Merit James E. Casey Scholarship through the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. The award is sponsored by UPS.
From more than 1.5 million students who entered the program, only 1,000 earn National Merit Scholarships, and Michelle is only one of twelve recipients in Kentucky.
