Choral Theatre Players present Scrooge: The Musical

Third and fourth grade members of the Choral Theatre Players put on a great preview performance of Scrooge: The Musical yesterday for a lower school audience. The play, which is directed by Jeannine Ary, combines drama with musical numbers to tell Dickens' classic story of a miser who finds the true meaning of Christmas by learning about empathy and compassion.

The Choral Theatre Players will present Scrooge: The Musical tonight in the Commons at 7:30 pm.

Fourth grade girl scouts serve the homeless

Kudos to the KCD fourth grade girl scout troop for their community service efforts leading up to Thanksgiving. The girls donated and prepared a chili lunch for over fifty families living at the shelter. In addition, the girls donated toys, games, books, hats, mittens, gloves, and toiletries to many of the residents. They also entertained the children with games of Bingo throughout the lunch. After lunch, the girls toured the shelter and participated in a question and answer session with the director about the shelter's services and the social problems caused by homelessness.

The Troop is led by Jill Vogel and Pam Klinner. Members of the troop are Lora Bubalo, Gracie Blue, Grace Bruns, Meredith Gamber, Cameron Perchik, Rachel San Miguel, Lindsey Smart, and Leah Vogel.

Collaborative writing project gets parents involved

Fourth graders in Kim Marek's class are used to daily creative writing exercises. This time, however, they had the opportunity to get their parents involved in the process. In the week before Thanksgiving, parents joined their children in the Wilder Room for breakfast. Parents and students worked together to create a story based around holiday-themed prompts such as turkey feather, pumpkin, and dancing elf. The student-parent teams then shared their entertaining creations with the group!

Fourth graders participate in Destination Imagination skills day

Recently, a group of KCD fourth graders traveled to Francis High School for a skills day for the lower school Destination Imagination program. Destination Imagination organizes projects and competitions that involve students in hands-on, problem-solving activities. Students met with electrical engineers and other specialists to talk about how they could incorporate gears, electricity, motors, creativity, and improvisation into their final projects. Lower School DI sponsor Sandi Johnson reports that students had a great time learning in this hands-on mode.
