LOWER SCHOOL BACK TO SCHOOL INFORMATION
The forms listed below contain information specific to students in the Lower School (JK through fourth grade). Forms and information relevant to students in all divisions can be found on the Back to School home page.

Early dismissal for JK & K students on August 21 and 22
Students in JK and K only will be dismissed at 11:45 a.m. for the first two days of school. Lunch will be served.

Open House for parents and students in junior kindergarten and kindergarten
August 18, 4–6:30 p.m.

Orientation for new parents and students in grades 1–4
August 14, 9:30–10:30 a.m.

PE Clothing Guidelines for JK and K
JK and K students do not change clothes for PE; however, they must have sneakers.

This document explains the gym clothing requirements for grades 1–4.

Gym Clothing Ordering Procedures for grades 1–4
Parents who wish to do so may order KCD gym clothing online through the KCD Alumni Association. This document explains the ordering procedure. Clothing purchased through the Alumni Association meets all the PE requirements set out in the document above. Please review this document before placing your order.

Medical Policies & Procedures
This document explains the procedures and forms needed for the opening of school:

1. A certified birth certificate from the state of the student's birth. (Required for all students.)
2. A current Kentucky immunization certificate. (Required for all students.)
3. A physical examination form. (A new physical examination is not required each year for returning students in the Lower School. However, a student new to KCD must have had a physical within the last twelve months before beginning school.)
4. A Kentucky eye examination procedure and form. (All students new to KCD and six years old or younger must have a vision exam by an optometrist or ophthalmologist.)

Classroom Supplies
KCD provides school supplies for all students enrolled by May 30, 2008. These supplies will be waiting in classrooms on the day of the Back to School picnic.

All students must supply a backpack large enough to hold a folder—no wheels, please.

Students enrolled after June 1 will need to purchase their own supplies. Please call the Lower School Office (814-4324) for a list of needed supplies.

BACK TO SCHOOL PICNIC
The Lower School Back to School Picnic will be held from 11:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 20, in the Commons Room and pool area. Bring the whole family and join us for swimming and great food.

Schedule for Lower School Picnic:

10–11:00: JK and K Play Date
Meet other JK and K parents and the Parent Association Grade Reps on the playground for refreshments. JK and K classrooms will open at 10:30, allowing children and parents to explore their classroom. After this event ends at 11, parents and children can move on to the Lower School Picnic or head home after a busy morning.

11–12:00: Classroom visits for grades 1–4. Students will receive a letter in mid-August informing them of classroom placement. Students in grades 1–4 are invited stop by and meet their teachers. Afterwards, head down to the pool and Commons room for the picnic.

11:30: Swimming pool opens, food is served in Commons. A lifeguard will be on duty at the pool.

1:30: Pool closes.
