At Kentucky Country Day School, we offer some of the best athletic facilities in the entire state, including 12 playing fields, two gymnasiums, a weight room, wrestling room, ropes course, and gymnastics room. Our coaching staff is composed of many qualified professionals, many with vast experience and championships under their belts. Within the last year, KCD coaches have been named to state and national-level Coach of the Year Awards.

The key element to our athletic program, however, is student participation. Our students are required to participate in at least two trimesters of athletics. After meeting this minimum requirement, almost 80% of our students choose to continue their participation on athletic teams. It is also our philosophy to allow and even encourage athletes to participate on as many different athletic teams as they wish—even two per season in some cases. With 13 middle school teams and 19 JV and varsity teams to choose from, students are faced with truly extraordinary opportunities. It is also commonplace for our student athletes to participate in other forms of extracurricular activities such as the school play, the school annual, or some other program.

It is the goal of our athletic department to offer the best program in the state. We are constantly striving to be a model for what makes middle and high school athletics beneficial for our students and school community. The “Athletic Culture” at KCD includes our entire KCD family, and we all work together to be the best.

Excellence
At KCD, excellence means that our athletes train and compete just as hard as athletes at much larger schools. The results speak for themselves: our programs have produced team and individual state champions, and our teams compete against some of the biggest schools in the region. What’s more, it’s not unusual for a KCD athlete to be recognized for achievements in academics and the arts as well as for efforts on the playing field.

Opportunities
Our eighty-five acre campus features some of the best facilities in the region and provides unparalleled opportunities for our athletes. Our athletic program currently offers fourteen sports and includes more than fifty middle and upper school teams.

Relationships
Working together on the practice and playing field is an experience that creates close and long-lasting relationships. For our coaches, this provides a unique opportunity to teach students memorable and lasting lessons about courage, determination, and teamwork.
